What's different about the 1970 piece? Was the shaft that the shifter attaches to not the same shape?

The factory went back to the 1970 style shifter handle for 1974. The "T" handles kept breaking so they went back to the old style.

Maybe it was a mid year change. There are a few post on CC.com that confirm the 70 style shifter was used in 74.(at some point during the year)

Here is the 74 dealer brochure that shows the 70 style shifter. The 73 brochure shows the T handle.

70 Lever is Round. The Oval shape was 71-74. The actual mechanisms are identical I believe.
