Need advice on drive line options

Need advice on drive line options - 11/11/14 04:01 AM

Have got my new engine all sorted, cme 522 stroker,500hp/600 torque.
Now I need some advice on either a built 727,a 18 spline 833 or a tko600.I like the idea of the overdrive in the 600.
The cheaper way would be to go 727 seeing the 70 charger is an auto now.
Would you guys with an overdrive ratio ever go back to 1:1.
Really would love a passon 5 speed but out of my price range.Charger will spend most of the time on the road.
Yea its got a dana 60 3.54 rear end also

If it will spend most of its time on the road, go for the OD. You can get an OD for the automatic as well, you know?

After driving an OD for a while, going back to the old 1:1, I keep thinking it (or I) should be shifting again soon.....Gene

I would first want to know your tire size.

You have a high torque stroker. If you plan highway driving its begging for OD... especially with 3.54 rear. In addition to reducing noise and wear, the OD will help provide usable range on a road trip (more MPG). Also, depending on tire size, 3.54 may be a bit much to start with.

I run a warm cammed 496 with 3.23 rear, 25.x" tires and TKO600 with 20% OD. I ran it round trip from IL to CA and back last year. On the way out I recorded every fuel fill. 14 MPG. I would not enjoy that trip with single digit fuel consumption. Probably need some cans in the trunk for security on long western stretches. Mine could easily handle 35% OD for cruising but I would loose the top speed gear. 20% is just about right for that with my setup.

If you don't go with OD, suggest a longer gear. 3.00 or less with that stroker.

Not with the Dana 60

Dana 61 had a 307 ratio in older dodge and ford diesels

I agree a od is likely in the op future but the amount will depend final tire od. But honestly it looks like your set up is close

Thanks for the replies,at the moment am running 295 50 15 about 27 inch diameter. I think I will stay with that for now.
Am leaning towards the complete tko600 kit from silversport,.82 or.64 ratio?,any feedback about the 600 or silversport would be great.

Do as much OD as you can. Very few of us require more top speed than can be attained with a 1:1 gear so IMO the .8 OD is useless for most people. And if you have more od than you need, you can always sneak in some more rear gear later on down the road.
