thanks

I wouldn't reduce before the cutout. I think it kinda defeats some of the purpose.

What I did on Gina's 72 was weld the 3" cut out to the header adapter which was also 3" the same as the collector on the header. It then gets redused to 2 1/2"s for the rest of the system.

I used about 12" of 3" pipe off the header collector; just enough to get past the trans crossmember. Then used a 3" cutout, with a reducer to 2-1/2" after that, leading to the rest of my system.

FWIW: I'm not a fan of electric cutouts.... seems like a poser accessory to me. But thats just me. The only time I open mine up is when I'm at the track. Takes less than 5 minutes to undo 6 wing-nuts.

The best price I've found on Dougs 3 inch electric cutouts is at Maryland Speed, $359.95 with free shipping.

Where I bought mine.

They have other sizes too.

As you get older crawling under the car gets alot harder to do.
It's a whole lot easier to just hit a switch and have open exhaust when your racing a street car at the track.

I'm what others would consider a poser, for now.

Electric cut-outs are a blast. I have had them on my cars for many, many years. Sometimes I just feel like I want the car to rattle surrounding windows and trigger car alarms, so I crack them a bit as I drive around. Everyone does a double-take. And sometimes I like to listen to the radio, so they are capped tight.

At cruises and car shows, the cut-outs garner a lot of attention and questions. It is not uncommon to be asked several times to fire the car and open and close them for people. Especially granddads with their grandsons. After I fire it off, they tell the kids "Now that's what my old car sounded like". Yeah, right.

Sometimes I have the kid sit in the passenger seat as I rev it with them open. You should see the look on their face as the whole car vibrates around them. Worth the price! It may be juvenile, but we all enjoy the heck out of it.

Often, I like quiet exhaust systems on my cars, but you know how restrictive they can be. Opening the cut-outs at the track is worth a full .25 second on my Cuda. I look at it as no compromises.

Anyone that thinks that cut-outs are only for posers hasn't been able to figure out their real potential. Which is in their fun-factor.

As to their location under the car, that may be decided by the size of the particular brand you choose and the obstacles under the car. They won't fit everywhere, especially the Doug's. Which, by the way, are the best I have seen.

We have a set of original prototype electric cutouts by Doug. They have been on the RoadRunner for almost 9 years. Yes, they are larger/beefier and seal better than the smaller butterfly type cutouts. But still seal well with the sliding gate and Dayton reduction motor. We added a support bracket for each to balance its heavier weight. We don't open them often but they are great when pulling up alongside a slammed Escalade who has his subwoofers booming out. They easily override his thumping bass..

Just my $0.02...

I dont use any as I just race through the pipes. Thats why I use a 3" system and the Ultra-Flow muflers. Ron
