72 Challenger ignition lock cylinder

72 Challenger ignition lock cylinder - 11/06/14 04:03 AM

Are the Challenger lock cylinders unique or do they interchange with other models?
I have several cylinders with keys from numerous 70-78 year model cars and trucks but I'm not sure about this one. I have a pal with a 72 and he lost the keys to his sons Challenger.
Thanks, Greg

If the door locks are still original, the easy way is to pull one lock & take it to a locksmith so he can cut a key for it.

According to Rock Auto, the Challenger uses the same lock cylinder as almost every Mopar built from 1970 to 1978 as long as the car has NO tilt wheel.

The release button is different for 1970-1971 and 1972-1989.

Thank you for that. I have some lock cylinders of different years to try.

Yeah,
I believe the column is machined with either a hole for the lock pin, or a groove to lock the cylinder in.Didn't tell too many people, but the fourth month in my new house, we got robbed and the bast*rds took both full sets of keys for all 4 cars, had to change them ALL.
Thanks to Ed Wogulis (TheMoparShop)in CA, I had 4 complete locksets in like 3 days.
