71 demon Hood Paint

71 demon Hood Paint - 11/01/14 06:08 PM

I know this has been a subject on here before because I did a search, but I thought I would throw it out there. I have a Demon 340 that I bought 12 years ago in need of a total resto. Well, the resto is almost complete and I need to paint the hood stripes on. Now, when I bought the car I took detailed photos of the hood pulling a tape measure from every side so that I could match the paint scheme correctly. Of course, 12 years later I can't find the pics. Does anyone have detailed measurements for the hood blackout treatment? I've looked at dozens of pictures of Demons on the net and quite a few at shows and they all seem to be different. I'm just hoping maybe has the actual measements.

Thanks

First off did yours have the thin border, mine did not. There is a "blueprint" I have and others on here that is correct, and matches original pics of my car minus the border, I'll post when I gat a chance.

Thanks for the reply. Mine did have the border. If you could post the template that you have, that would be great! The more info I can gather the better.

Only thing about the diagram is it states semi gloss, it should be more of a satin. And not waxable.

Thanks Ademon! That should help. I see one thing that is different than my car though. The puple stripe in the middle of the hood went all the way to the windshield on my car just like the purple car in this thread. I'm beginning to think that different assembly plants painted things differently, including some had pinstripping, others did not.

Thanks everyone for their input!

That's exactly my car except mine has rally wheels! Your hood paint is as close to what mine was as I've seen. Thanks for the pic!

Never really seen an original paint demon with the body color down the center of the cowl. Every one that claimed to be original had the cowl blacked out. But who knows.

Here is a picture of mine with what I believe to be the original paint. This is an LA built car. Just curious RJS, was your car built at the LA plant?

Mine was a Hamtrack car built 925. But like I said it was redone and I have no idea about accuracy.

Well I was thinking that whoever restored your car tried to reproduce what was there originally, and that maybe LA built cars were painted that way. Apparently that is not the case. Well, I'm 99.9% sure that mine came from the factory painted with the stripes all the way to the windshield. That is how I will finish it.
