426 Hemi into a 65 B body shock modification - 10/31/14 07:25 PM

Passenger shock tower modification required to use a Hemi engine with valve adjustment access.
Looking for someone in the Metro Detroit area familiar with the modification and able to do it.

Thanks

I know you have to do it on an 68 A body.
Is it also required on a 65 B body?
I have a 65 Bel II with the inner fender and firewall work done.
That just may be a deal breaker for me if so.

The bump under the shock hole has to be moved away from engine, slice the hole area then flip. You also have to clip the front upper a-arm area, leave a hole there.I'll try to find a pic

I did not invert the shock tower when I put the 528 in my 64 Sport Fury. The valve cover is very close to the shock stud but I have a tie down on the engine to keep it from rocking so it is not a big deal.

i was able to get the valve cover off of one i built a few years back, and it had the ultra rare mickey thompson k-head cast valve covers, it did not have the inverted shock tower, just don't use the schumacher hemi conversion mounts, unless they have fixed the issues that those have.

Here's a pic of an inverted shock tower mod from Mosher's site.
Previous owner of my 64 belvedere, cut the passenger tower & welded
a flat top on it so I'm gonna leave it that way since its part of its
history.

You gotta remember that engineers are an anal lot, they set clearance standards and won't deviate from them. I've seen a lot of GEN 2 Hemis in early B's with no engine compartment mods.
