1971 Duster 340, radio delete plate? - 10/27/14 04:28 PM

Does anyone know what happened if you didn't order a radio for a 1971 Duster 340? Was there a radio delete plate?

Thanks!

How does one DELETE an extra cost option ???

There would be a BLOCK OFF plate on a standard steel dash frame.

But the rallye dash bezel would not have the radio holes at all vs. a plate being put in place of the radio best I can tell from an internet search, and knowing how they handle other plastic bezels that had radio holes molded in them.

68 super stock barracuda rallye dash had a plate clipped over the radio holes. Where the 68 Dart GT/270/GTS full plastic bezel is just molded without any radio holes.

Same for heater delete, Darts have a molded blank into the bezel, Rallye gauges have clipped plastic plates over heater control panel.

The rallye plates are not unique to super stock cars. They are commonly found in Mexican and South American Darts that came std with Rallye gauges

I suspect the same was done in 71.

Maybe for assembly inventory reasons. Rallye dash bezels include gauge panel AND cover radio area AND include heater-A/C controls area. Whereas Darts have a seperate panel for heater-A/C, radio.

Thanks for the correction Steve, I have seen many radioless dash bezels without radio holes instead of a block off plate , 69 Dart , 72 duster , 71/72 B body , E body ...

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to why they did what they did. I did see one A body rallye plate on 4Abodiesonly , but it was one the person admitted to making that way.

Does yours look like this, but with black 69-71 paint instead of silver 67-68 paint?

Here's one I removed from a 68 dart.

But I've also owned this one NOS that may be the way 67 came, or likely as Steve states 68 270 and GTS.

That's for a 68-69 and maybe 67 Dart 170 and cars that didn't have plastic trim over the glove box door.

Some year in there had a different mounting screw hole placement.

That's 68 and 69.

67's are curved around the radio area

My 71 Duster 340 was ordered without a radio. There is a black plastic delete plate that bolts in where the radio knobs would have been. There are also no speaker or clips for the speaker under in the dashboard. I have not seen another Duster 340 that was ordered without a radio, I'd say pretty rare on the 340's, probably not as much as the economy six's.
