Reputable small block crate engine suppliers? - 10/22/14 12:42 AM

Are there any good/reputable suppliers out there for a relatively mild small block crate engine at a reasonable price? Something that runs on pump gas, has good torque, and probably in the 300 to 350hp range.

I've always built my own so I'm not really aware whats out there, but I'm trying to help a non internet savvy friend find some options since he needs a total replacement and isn't technically savvy enough to build his own.

Thanks for any feedback!

I have no actual exp with crate engines but I've heard a few bad stories (on here). Mass produced ain't good. Just me I'd peruse CL in his area & find a good buy. Money talks & there are good deals out there. Patience is a virtue. Otherwise consider this a BTT for ya

Never used them so can't comment on quality but prices seem ok and I have not read anything bad about them.

Or the for sale section here. There always seems to be some pretty good deals on here.

I would look to a local rebuilder/machine shop before buying a crate.
That being said, Summit has a 408 that has a 30 month 50K mile warranty.

Indy cylinder head has several crate style engines at all different price and power levels.
Might give them a look.

Look at the suggested parts for this engine.

Seems Summit has a problem.

When does he need a new motor?
I want to go Gen 3 and will need to sell my 340 soon.

How does Summit have a problem? Most of what you need to get the crate motor to run is on your old engine, unless it's not a 360-based engine, in which case you need correct harmonic damper and correct flywheel/flexplate.

LOL

Those chevy parts should fit that mopar if using a big sledge to install. I believe that's the "problem".

I've never used them either, but have heard pretty much good to excellent comments/recommendations on other Mopar forums, including Brand X forums as well....Indy and Blueprint(Summit/Jegs/etc) just seem to have too many issues and pissed off customers to even contemplate listing them

I would love to hear any feedback anyone has as well. I was looking into getting one of their 440's.

CME have been successful NHRA super stock racers for a long time, seem to be good people. The OP is from Ca, why not give Brian at IMM a call and see if he will put a package togther.

I did a lot of research before chosing a builder for mine, and I agree with this. Indy and Blueprint have had problems. I went with Muscle Motors in Michigan and have been happy with the choice. Sometimes their communication is not so good, but I didn't hear anything negative when I asked around and haven't had any problems after about 1000 miles (408 small block).
