Teflon tape work with diesel fuel? - 10/04/14 07:54 PM
Does teflon tape work OK with diesel fuel? This would be submerged in a tank, so will have contact 100% of the time.

I believe the Teflon tape will seal... but not preferred for fuel since little threads or bits of tape can get in the fuel. Teflon pipe dope will work without the problem of debris. Just double check the label for fuel compatibility.

This isn't for a fuel line. I'm getting tired of running to the gas station with my 5 gallon cans to get diesel fuel for my compact tractor and zero turn mower so I'm setting up a pump for them. The suction line for the pump will have a foot valve on the bottom of it that goes in a 275 gallon tank. I just wondered if teflon tape would work there (since I have lots of that around). I have some pipe dope too, but it doesn't say anything about being compatable with petroleum products. I think the yellow is for natural gas lines.

If I am reading this correctly you are wanting to use this on fittings that are being used for a pickup for a pump in a storage tank and will remain submerged.. If that is correct why are you even concerned with any kind of sealant?? You dont say what material you are using for suction line but if it is pipe all you need is some lubricant on the threads and screw it together and if it is staying submerged even that is optional( really are you worried about the fuel in the tank leaking into the suction line??)Quote:

Just as long as the foot valve does not rust and start to stick
