Need info on swapping disc brakes onto a '64 Dodge 880 - 09/18/14 09:20 AM
I guess this is a C-Body. Any luck on retrofitting discs onto this car. They really are pitiful. The Disc-o-Tech article says it works back to '65. What's different? This is my first C-Body, and it's really different under there.

A 64 880 is a B Body. C bodies Started in the 65 model year. As far as a disc kit I used the entire knuckle assemblies off of an 87 Gran Fury on my 70 Satellite. I actually bought them for my 65 but opted to go Wilwood instead. They interchange 62-72 depending on sway bar applications. I'm not positive but I think the Diplomat Knuckles 81 and up are they same.

A 1964 880 is a C-body. 1965 was the first year for a Plymouth C-body.

yeah, it is a full size, not a b-body.
if some one used m-body spindles on a 62 300, then it should work on the 880.
but I would wait to hear back from rocky to be sure.
that also means any of the b-body swaps should work too.
I didn't own mine long enough to try for a disc swap so I don't know what will work.
you can do a little research on part numbers for the upper and lower ball joints and see what interchanges.

The upper ball joints are the same as everything later that used the larger ball joint, so that's good. The lowers are different, and don't know if I should try the A-Body spindles or the taller B-Body ones. It's so different under there. The torsion adjuster is in back, not in the control arm. The upper control arm attaches to the crossmember, not the fender well. The shock is like 10" long and mounts inside a tube welded to the crossmember. There's almost no steering column. The steering box is right against the firewall. With all that, I don't see anything that would stop newer discs from bolting up. I don't know about anything unforeseen like geometry changes, bumpsteer, things like that.

Disc brake swaps are a very common topic over on the C body Dry Dock forum. You should be able to find most everything known on the subject with a little bit of searching.

The Dry Dock gives conversion info going back to '65, and doesn't say why. I'll dig through further, though. Thanks. I appreciate all help.

Because nothing before 65 is a C-body. Wrong forum for an 880.

For A and B-bodies perhaps but C-body didn't start until 65.

My son's 57 full size Dodge has an aftermarket disc brake kit that uses the original spindle and adds a plate & a spacer for the bearings like they do with the older cars. We haven't done the complete swap yet, but the car's original spindles are pretty tall, I doubt an M body spindle has enough height. Gene

Re: Need info on swapping disc brakes onto a '64 Dodge 880 - 09/19/14 03:53 AM
although the 880 is considered to be a full size car[ C body or not], it uses the B body upper ball joint [ moog # k772 ] the lower ball joint is the screw in moog # k719. this is the same taper as the B body lower joint. therefore, use the standard conversion spindle of your choice, but you will have to use your lower spindle arm or the lower spindle arm from a late B or R body [diplomat, st. regis, etc.] the steering stop from said later lower arm may, or may not need trimmed or tweeked.

All 1960-64 full size Mopars can have Aspen/ Volare or 5th Ave, Diplomat disc brakes swapped on.
Go to The Forward Look forum for more info on the full size early cars

I know we went thru it when we ordered the joints for the 62 300.They sent the big ones.Had to send them back and get the smaller ones.Rocky
