Broken motor mount! UPDATE!

Broken motor mount! UPDATE! - 09/16/14 11:10 PM

Well the 440 in my 1969 Road Runner broke a motor mount the other day! How long it has been broke is actually a good question!? How I found out was that when I was cruising down the road, I got on it really good "W.O.T.",then me and my son heard something crunching, turning out it was the top of the radiator shroud getting chewed up by the fan when the whole engine flexed a little to much. The driver side rubber part of the mount split in half! So....I don't really want to go back to the cheap rubber mounts made over seas, do you guys use something different/better? I don't want to have to drive it like grandma going to church on Sunday from now on.

I believe you can find the mounts with a metal piece that keeps them from separating too far. You could also chain that monster down.

I have used Mity Mounts, work great! Only problem is you need to buy a pair. http://www.mitymounts.com/chrysler.htm

I agree , add a torque strap , rubber is not made like it used to be , cheap overseas mounts do not last long , what do you expect for 6bucks ???

When the mounts on my hemi challenger broke, I got the polyloc
mounts from schumacher & they worked great.
Here's a cool idea firefighter Ron did used on his Charger & looks like a great idea & is way cheaper than the polyloc's too.

Thanks everyone, Definetly not going back to the cheap rubber mounts, I will look into one of the above mentioned items. Looks like I'll add it to my fall project list. Thanks for all the help.

Those are the "good" ones (Korea). The ones made in India don't even last with a car sitting for six months...

Or you can DIY and save some bucks.

How about using castable polyurethane to redo your old mount?
Devcon makes some.
Another company in Denver also makes some.

Step up and do it right next time.. Had the same thing happen with the "made in india" napa mounts I had.. Installed the Schumacher mounts and have never had a problem since....

Countersunk bolts through a stock mount is what I do, like the DodgeCharger.com post.

Years ago I used what I believe were Mity Mounts in my GTX and felt a little vibration. Is my memory correct?
What's others real world experiences since I'm at the point that I need to buy mounts soon for my Satellite.
Thanks Ron

When I changed out the Napa " made in india" mtr mounts to the Schumacher mounts in my 67 coronet, there was definite increase in engine vibrations...

This has been a really helpful post! Thanks everyone. I am thinking about taking the stock mount and modifying it as posted above. Whenever I get around to doing this, I'll try and post some pic's and how the process went.

Re: Broken motor mount! UPDATE! - 09/22/14 02:19 AM

Well had time to fix the motor mount today, it went fairly well took me about 4 hours. Thanks for all the info everyone. The method I used was running bolts through the stock mounts.
