06 pt 2.4 non turbo rev limiter - 08/18/14 06:34 PM

06 pt 2.4 non-turbo 5 spd, CHK ENG AND IN LIMP HOME MODE.
When at normal operating temp wont rev over 3200.
Cold, runs to red line until warm, every start, w/o resetting code.
1. Purchased 1 month back with broken t-belt.
2. Continues to show 0340 Cam/Crank sensor (replaced both OEM)
3. Checked harness for broken wire at pins.
4. Compression cold is 160-180.
5. Was showing low oil light, pulled sensor, installed mechanical gauge, 80 cold, when warm..35 idle, 75 over 1500, installed new sensor, now no light.
6. Have not replaced magnet on cam, (runs too well cold)
7. Crank and Camshafts are on the marks.

If memory is correct...
exhaust was 1/2 tooth advanced (below CL)
been in there 3 times, wish there was a crank TDC window.
may add one.
top cover is off, i will turn by hand and stop when int is inline and see where the exh mark is...was 1/2 tooth below.

quick question,
the crank has a sensor and the intake cam has a sensor...Correct?
am i understanding these remained unchanged and the exhaust was moved?

I verified my timing, it was off.
Both cams were 1 tooth above where the should have been.
check engine light went out on its own at start-up, drove the car about 25 miles after it came to normal operating temp, no limp home mode.
Idle is now up from about 550 and weak to about 675-700 and very stable.

You sent me in the correct direction, thank you.
Ken.
