Catchin he^& tryin to find a replacement speedo cable - 01/01/09 09:43 PM

Can anyone help or give some suggestions? The speedo cable on my 72 Swinger is hosed and I cant seem to find a replacement.

Ive gone to 3 different parts houses and they all list the same part number,(Pioneer CA 3027). The connector that goes to the speedo head is correct on the replacement, but where it screws to the tranny speedo gear its too small. I searched from 1970 -1976 Slant 6 and V8 part numbers and its all the same part number, but it doesnt fit at the tranny.

The tranny I have is a 3 speed(on the column),and Checker has a listing for a 3 and 4 speed cable, but its the same as the part number that doesnt fit(CA 3027)

Is there an adapter I can buy,or do I maybe have the wrong speedo gear installed?

The lady at Autozone told me I could look through thier inventory, but thats like 150 different cables, and knowing my luck I would find the correct ends but the length would be too short.

Can anyone help me on this?

Is it possible someone swapped in a different tranny? You may want to check it to make sure it's the correct one for that year. Anyway, try this place:

Imperial Services

They're expensive, but they make a very nice product. Good luck.

When I put cruise in my '72 W200, my local dealer was able to get me the two cables with only the lengths and the end connections. They had some kind of a generic Chrysler chart.

Try your local dealership or Bill Kay or any of the others who advertise here on the board. I got my 73 Cuda cable from Autonation Chrysler (formerly John Elway Chrysler) as they are still available from Mopar.
Edit: Additional note, there have been stories of grief over after market cables trashing the the speedometers. Try to find a Mopar cable.

From the 72 Factory Parts Book.

Available from any chrysler parts department under #4897646AA or your local parts store Dorman #03192. Parts store cable is half the cost of the OE cable.

I wanted to try the Dorman 03192,but have to order it and am afraid that if it comes in, it too will have that smaller end. Well might have to try it.Thanks for the info everyone.
