5.9 Magnum rod bearing question? - 01/01/09 09:21 PM
I pulled a rod bearing to inspect from a 1999 RT motor. The marking says "12 98 D, DA 49"
So how do I read this to determine what the bearing size is? Would Clevite 77's from Mancini be adequate replacement? I don't like the look of the bearing and thirty some dollars for a set are cheap insurance.

mike the rod journal to find out the size...
12 98...date of manufacture for the bearing...which fits a 99 engine..
u should see on the other end of the bearing...
std..for standard ...or .010..of undersize journal

There are no other markings.

The lower portion of the shell is marked "12 98 C" No other markings. I don't have a mic large enough to measure the journal. I have never seen a bearing without a size on it.

They don't always say "std", I would push the rod up in the cylinder and mic it with something to verify std which it most likely is with that date.
