What EGR to use?

What EGR to use? - 07/03/14 09:37 PM

I have a Performer intake for a 318/360 with the egr (Part #3776). It has a Holley 670 Avenger and a 1/2" spacer.

I need to install an egr to meet government regulations. All of the egr valves I found in the scrap yard (from the 80's) are too tall.

What year of egr will fit on the intake with a holley carb?

Thanks!

IIRC my 83 Ram Charger had a pretty short EGR.You do know they arent all calibrated the same though.Rocky

Im not concered whether it works or not. I'll plug the lines with silicone. Its for optics really.

We have had problems in the past up here in the great white north with our MTO guys (same as you DOT guys) pulling over classic cars and looking for pollution control stuff. Things like egr's, charcoal canisters, etc.

They look to see if its on the car but dont test to see if it works.

As a result I just need one that will fit and not interferre with with carb linkage.

I do not think you will have much luck finding an EGR that'll fit. I believe the stock ones used a Carter carb and universal type holleys have bits of linkage in the way.

A spacer to space up the carb might do it.

That's what I'm running into. I left the EGR on the mid '70s 360 intake to plug the hole and maybe experiment. But trying to use a Q-jet or Holley spreadbore means I'll have to cut off any linkage below the throttle shaft. I have a 4-speed so that's okay, but I am going to use a 1" spacer to keep the carb in salable condition.

To block the egr from working just put a BB in the hose to it.We used to do that years ago at the shop when egrs were aggresive and customers didnt want to spend $$$ to replace them. They also had a small delay valve on some. You could turn them around and block vacuum from getting to them.Rocky
