Wiring question - 06/02/14 06:25 PM

Hi guy's, I purchased a new engine wiring harness for my 69 superbee from Yearone. On my old harness the two wires for the amp gauge I bypassed the connectors at bulkhead and wired them straight thru now my new harness will be like factory. I need opinions/advice, should I cut up the new harness or should I put new female connectors back on the two wires at the bulkhead and hope the connectors snap back in the slots at the bulkhead? I really would like to be able to put new connectors on the two wires and hope they snap back in the slots instead of cutting those two wires on the new harness. Oh and I used the code for a 25 percent discount on their website last night. Thanks Moparts for that one!

Put in new connectors. This guy has them:

I did buy new connectors last year off Ebay from this guy. I will try that first and like I said, I hope they snap back into place. Thanks, Dave.

If you want to bypass and not cut up your harness with splices, here's a solution using the packard 56 style connectors.

Add the male style to your wires passing through and snap it together.

The website isn't connecting!

Try the link I posted. He has the quick disconnects also with bigger wire guage terminals.

Go to del city site. Check waytek as well if you want a 12 ga connector.

You don't need a 12ga wire to make the jump connector. 14ga is adequate IF you did the mad electric style alternator wire around. You are turning those two wires into feeds only for the interior.

You did Nacho's parallel bulkhead bypass by running 2 wires straight thru the bulkhead halves & now you're strongly considering returning to OE? If you drilled out the 4 cavities (2 in each half) to run the 2 wires thru then possibly & likely you wont be able to get the tang on the female terminal to snap in place to secure it. You might be able to epoxy the terminal in place solid just like the tang would normally do. To me the bottom line is how close will the ammeter needle be to 12 o'clock. new brass terminals are very good & you wanna slightly compress the curved side ears on the female connectors so when engaged it is a tight fit & not sure whether koppercoat or dielectric grease would be the best on em...

Thanks guy's, I will pull out the bulkhead female connector side from inside the car and see if I can get one or two to snap in before I make a decision. I may have to look at it closely before deciding what I will do after I get my harness. It isn't like the bulkhead is mangled or damage it still is in good shape for being as old as it is so I may be able to get to work out okay.

Is the female connector on the bulkhead for the red and black 12 ga. wire that is for the amp gauge bigger than the other connectors or
is it the same size? Thanks, Dave

The wire end of the connector is different. Where the connection between bulkhead and harness, they are the same.

The connectors usually come in 18-20, 14-16 and 10-12 wire sizing. It's the tab length that lock the wire and insulation that is different. I've used 14-16 terminals to attach 12 gauge wire while also tinning the wire ends to the terminals. Not the best way to do things, got to make use with what you have sometimes.

Thank you! I was able to get the two wires on the connectors and they locked in okay at the bulkhead. It seems the brass connectors are slightly longer than originals I bought off EBay but my old harness from the engine side snapped in place pretty good so it looks like things will work out! Dave.
