Cibie CSR headlamps -anyone running them?

Cibie CSR headlamps -anyone running them? - 12/30/08 04:45 PM

What is needed to convert a standard sealed beam (factory '70 Challenger 4 headlight system) over to these? Are the lows and highs the same lamp, just aimed differently?

On a 4 lamp system you have one high/low and one high on each side. The conversion installs headlights that accept a bulb rather than a sealed beam that is the bulb and glass housing in one package. You can get 55/60 halogen sealed beams for much less than the cost of a conversion kit.

Make sure you get a quality conversion kit if you plan to run higher than stock wattage or they may melt. Also, you should use a relay for higher than stock watts or you'll burn up the headlight switch.

I am looking at the setup from Daniel Stern lighting or whatever his name is I was hoping someone had tried them before I spend $500 on the setup ensuring it fits/works correctly. I believe he is one of if not the only place you can get the CSR's. I am settled on this as it appears you can't get a true HID system for e-bodies with the correct lenses.

Although not specific to your question, I have had a set installed on my 57 Chev for 3 years and really like them. I know I'm talking a 2 light system vs 4 lamp. Light pattern is very similar to my 04 Durango. Make sure to install a relay, these draw a lot of power. I bought the optional "city lights" which make a nice daytime running light.

I have had my Cibie 4 lamp system since `73 and have had them in four different cars and love `em. I have the big 130/100 watt lamps in them and couldn`t ask for any more light. Combined with my Cibie 175 driving lights with 130 watt bulbs you can go just about as fast as you want without overdriving them.
Depending on the amount of traffic where you live you can juggle the wattage of the lamps in the hi/low beams to avoid melting the retinas of oncoming drivers but these things have lead crystal lenses with a VERY precise beam pattern so they`re not a real hazard for other drivers if used responsibly.

I just got a setup from dan s for my demon - 01/01/09 11:50 PM

I'm really happy. The harness he sent was d.i.y. and the whole setup was pretty spendy, but the quality of the light is great and the quality of his components was top notch too. I probably don't need them in the city and suburbs, but in the country at night will be an incredible upgrade. The light is super bright without being blue or annoying. I got a hold of 'slant six dan' over at the slantsix.org.
good luck

Is it a straight up swap out as far as the light housings? I.E. no cutting or modifying the headlight buckets, etc...? Thanks for the info so far guys.
