1990 Caravan 3.3 liter, No Start, Flash Code 55 - 12/29/08 10:38 PM

Likely culprit(s) for the code 55 on this 3.3?

55 is end of message. Do you have spark? Fuel pressure?

Check the secondary braided ground strap from the neg. battery terminal to the block. My 95 Caravan broke/rotted and had a no start condition.

Check the crank sensor. In fact, replace the crank sensor. Whether it needs it or not. They are NOTORIOUS for going bad. Its cheap and extremely easy to do. They wont always set a code.

First things first, this is where you need to start.

Yea, trying to take a shortcut through the key board in a comfortable chair.

We have no spark.

Could also be the cam sensor in the distributor.

There is a cam sensor but there is no distributor.

This van was parked and took a headlamp fracturing bump in the drivers front corner and has not started since. Since the ECM is located in that area I believe I will check all connections there and then possibly try that crankshaft sensor.

Ok, no spark, has momentary power at the B+ terminal at the coil as per the manual and then momentary power again while cranking. I had the ECM disconnected and now it has a flash code of 12, no 12 is listed in the manual I am using. Once again its a 1990 3.3 Caravan but my only 3.3 manual is for a 93 Acclaim.
The thing is everything seems to be intermittant, once I detected constant power at the coil B+ while cranking, I then reconnected things and it cranked like the timing was off, fired and ran poorly till it died. Now nothing again, any ideas??? Any spots in harness that may be prone to issues?

A 93 acclaim should be a 3.0 which is completely different.

I think 12 means battery or power was disconnected.

The manual has a 3.3 - 3.8 section. It also has a 3.0 and a four cylinder section. It covers several differant letter designated Chrysler autos.

So its not a factory FSM.

It is a FSM, I should have said its a manual set we got that covered a 93 Acclaim we had, rather than imply that it was a specifically only for an Acclaim.
