Engine won't turn over

Got a question for you guys out there: I go to start the 340 up, it won't turn over in park at all. I had this problem last year when driving it. Howevrr, I would put it in neutral and it would start right up. I'm assuming it's probably a simple fix, but I could be wrong. Thought maybe the neutral safety switch? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

That's where I would look, NSS. Also if it's an auto then make sure the gear selector is solidly in park.

Yes, it sounds like the shift linkage is a little out of adjustment.

it is better to start it in N for the trans to start pumping fluid and fill TC.

but try holding up on shift lever while starting to see if it will hit in park.

slightly worn/mis-adjusted shift linkage is what it sounds like to me as it starts in N with no issues..so in park the rooster comb is not far enuff to make the conection.

& I would dig in & find where the misadjustment is since it might continue to deteriorate to where one day it wont start even in neutral & that might happen at the most inopportune time (Murphys law) (hot date or a getaway driver etc)
