ok guy's i will be running a comp XE256H in my 74 318 motor, now summit say's comp cam's recommend Valve Springs 926-16, cant i run the comp 901's & still be safe??

do either Comp or Summitt have published open/closed specs for both of those springs?

That's what you'll need as well as installed height and coil bind specs.

It's so easy to look up.
The 926 installed at 1.8" has 109 seat pressure and spring rate of 415 lb per inch. So if your 318 is like mine it has installed height of 1.6" so seat pressure would be 192 lb. sounds too much to me, but what do I know?
The 901 has 101 at 1.6 IH and spring rate 353 lb per inch. I believe board members have used that spring on similar cams successfully.

that's what I had on the 302 heads I was using on the 318 I had the 256 cam in, that what comp says to use-

Try a set of edelbrock springs from their rpm heads. Perfect for that small cam and very inexpensive.
