Dana Rear Axle ID - 12/28/08 06:40 PM

I have a '71 Road Runner that I am restoring. The previous owner was going to clone it to a 6 pack car and had a Dana rear in the car. I'm going to put an 8-3/4 rear in it. Can anyone tell me how I can determine what the Dana came out of? Here's what I have as far as numbers and measurements. On the rear of the housing on the top right is a casting number that is C34155. On the front of the axle on the passenger side is a date code, I think - 337-69 (337th day of 1969?). Looking from the rear, there is a lube tag at 11 o'clock and a ratio tag (4.10 gears) at approx. 12:30. It does have a pinion snubber. It measures 54" drum to drum inside and 54-3/4" on the backing plates. Is this enough info to ID it or what else do I need? Thanks.

Look on the right axle tube towards the back. There are some numbers there right around the brake line about 1/2 way between the center and the outside spring perch. They should read something like 602957-2 and it will have a date code as well before that. Go to autohobbydigest.com and look at the tables under the dana section to see what it fits.
