Supplemental to LED Lighting....HID Conversions...

Supplemental to LED Lighting....HID Conversions... - 12/25/08 10:51 AM

So in my further quest to be different and give a better look to the car at night, I want to install HID on the 69. I ordered a set of 4 5001 conversion headlights that accept an H4 bulb but I was wondering if I could install the HID upgrade. The lighting here isnt so well at night and its part of the WOW! factor. I know my electrical system can handle it as I have a 100amp alternator and a Painless Relay kit on my existing headlight switch. I don't care for the Angel Eyes or Halo's since I have hidden headlights, and the halo's work with just the parking lamp circuit and the doors still in the closed position.

I am assuming since these run at 35watts they are comparably lower in heat to the 55watt standard H4 bulbs you usually get in the H4 conversions and this the housings dont get as hot. Considerably brighter since they offer 12,000 Kelvin bulbs. Enough to blind those schmucks with Jeep Cherokee's and Hummer's here.

Anyone install these? Any issues?

I put HIDs in my Ranger, and plan do so in my Barracuda asap. You'll get a bit of glare using stock housings, but you can aim them to make it decent. Don't be too concerned about the alternator our power draw. HIDs take a little more power to light, but draw decently less power than Halogens once lit. However I'd still recommend headlight relays.

That kit posted is way way too rich for my blood! I am running a $50 kit off eBay, only problem that I have had is a ballast went out 7 months after daily use in my Ranger. They gave me a new one on warranty.

I could get my 'Cuda, Ranger + Fogs for the $150 you were lookin' at.

Also! Do not buy 12,000k bulbs!! They'll be purplish, or really really blue...and have low light output (for HIDs).

The thing with hids is 5,000k are the whitest, most light output you can get. 6,000s have a little bluer, still great light output. 8,000ks are about as far as you want to get, they'll be bluer than 6's, but anything higher will lose too much light due to color.

I think I was running the 5000's on the 70 R/T and they were pretty bright. The relays made a world of difference since the stock wiring cant handle that kinda usage. Well you know since you have the wiring diagram on your webpage. Maybe 8000k is the most I should go. This is why I ask...

So what ebay auction are you keeping an eye on for the 'Cuda?

This is the same seller I used for the Ranger. So likely I'll go the same route. I know the ad's seem fishy, and the "$26" shipping doesn't seem right...but they work. I've bought from him, came pretty quick, warranty was good, cheap, no reason not to run again.
