Can you tap it oversize and use sealant on the threads on the bolt or stud. Some of the exh. studs go into the water jacket. Or you could use a heilcoil.

OK, since were drilling in the threaded blind hole, and accidentally made it a through hole, the easiest fix would be to continue what your were going to do to repair the threads--I would use a threadsert if there's enough meat around the hole, helicoil with epoxy (to aid sealing)if there is not. Then insert a 1/4" stud, WITH epoxy or thread sealant. call it done

No thats what the sealant is for. Now some sealants are better than others. Epoxy will seal great (make sure to run a solvent--like laquer thinner) q-tip through the threads to degrease first)but its a pretty permanent installation. Teflon sealants--tape or compound, permatex etc. I would stay away from RTV for threads (because if the threads are disturbed after intial cure they can lose their seal)

Your fix will work. I had water leaking around a valve cover bolt on a 440 restoration job. I tapped the hole a little deeper, put a set screw in with sealer on it, and that way I was able to put a bolt in it, and it never leaked water when I took the bolt back out agai8n.
