Orange Box ignition. Rev limiter options

Orange Box ignition. Rev limiter options - 02/13/14 10:29 PM

Stock 72 340 orange box. I am looking at the MSD soft touch or Pertronix600. (the Rev-n-ator is 200 dollars and has yet to win me over for that price when all I want is a limiter)

So ive heard that people have been wiring the msd soft touch a little differently than what is shown in their instructions. Who here has it wired and working? (and what wiring did you finally use)

As for the Pertronix unit, who has it wired and working right? Again, did you follow the advertised wiring or did you make alterations.

Thanks.

I can tell you the rev-n-nator does work very well. From my test I gained a .10 sec. on the track. Plus my car seem to run a lot better on the street. This is just from what I have seen from the rev-n-ator.

Before I tested every ignition I could get my hands on with my dyno, I used to run an MP chrome box and added on a Petronix rev limiter. Wire it per the instructions. I think those limiters are in the $140 range now.

I saw a Petronix kit recently that had multispark, rev limiter, etc all in one kit. I'd look at that before just adding a rev limiter to an ECU box only system.

I've had an MSD soft touch on my car with an orange box since 2001. Works great, usually on a cold 1-2 shift when it's needed. I added it after a friend hurt his engine from over rev when a drive line part let go.

how did you wire yours? did you use the purple wire? theres seems to be some people saying the directions are wrong and that you actually should use the white wire to the coil along with the green

Purple to grey w/ black tracer between orange box & dist.

Black to ground.

Red to alt output (B+ = power)

Green to coil (-).

Good luck.
