Verifying #'s matching on a 68 Motor. - 02/06/14 01:44 PM

I know the 69's and up contain all or portions of the VIN on the RH oil pan rail but on a 68, does a portion of the actual VIN show up on the LH side upper block ledge located near the head or is it the shipping # I should see? I can't recall.

Thanks.

VIN, if I remember right, it's been awhile. And that is only later 68s and I have heard it was spotty.

Thanks very much. Exactly what I was looking for. I'm trying to verify #'s on a 68 340 motor.

Actually that link has some wrong info on it. It suggests that the 68 and later cars have the VIN stamped on the RH oil pan rail. It should say 69 and later. OOPS.

correct, 69 on had vin, yet oil pan rail (adjacent to starter opening) holds pertinent info to verify if block is in correct date range.
