Street Demon or Holley S.A. ??

Street Demon or Holley S.A. ?? - 01/19/14 03:06 AM

I am wanting to change out the carb on my mildly
built 360 Duster. Right now I use a 600cfm Edelbrock #1406....I want to upgrade to something better! The engine is mostly stock: dual plane
Weiand intake,1 5/8 headers with 2 1/2" dual exhaust,Firecore electronic ignition, hydraulic "340" cam/valvetrain,904 auto transmission that is all stock except for deep pan and shift kit.

I am thinking of either the Street Demon 625 cfm
"phenolic plastic" carb...or the Holley Street
Avenger 670 cfm carb..I would be using electric
choke with either one. Anyone have any experience with either of these two carburetors, or advise to give? Thanks!

I have the 670 SA on my Charger with 383. Engine has E heads, MP duel plane manifold, stock HP cam and electronic ignition. Once adjusted properly no problems at all. Been on about 6 or 7 years Had to go down 2 jet sizes I think, adjust fuel pump rod and squitter's and a different secondary spring.

Frank...how good is throttle response in your
Charger with that Holley 670? Thanks for your response btw.

There just was a recent thread on this & I forget which one was by far touted as the one to get. If no one chimes in on that you might see if you can retrieve that thread.

The Street Demon looks to me to be the carb of choice right now. Lots of good reviews out there. I am going to change the Holley on the Barracuda out for one shortly.

I think the best price right now is Advance Auto Parts. Internet orders get 15% off (limited to $50), free freight, and a $25 gift card. Gets the 1901 down to about $325. That is with electric choke.

probably talking about this thread? Moparts Link

I think I posted in that thread with my good experience with a 670 SA on my 360 with a Weiand Stealth. Hardly touched it since. Some apparently come from the factory with a bog problem that I've heard can be fixed with a few washers under the spring/screw that contacts the accelerator pump lever.

As for some of the comments in the other thread, I didn't want to get into it there...But look closely at the dyno chart supposedly showing the SA as the worst performer. The legend in the bottom left shows the low performing line as "360MANIF" the next line as "SHORTYHD" and the last visible ending in "____HD" I guess if someone was comparing a SA on an engine with manifolds against another carb on the engine with headers it would make the SA look pretty bad... Bet most people didn't catch that.

I like mine, and will be looking for a 750 soon. Demons look weird on stockish cars. Only other thing I would look at is the Quickfuel Hot Rod series.

Thanks guys for all the comments/advise so far.
At the moment I am leaning towards the 625 Demon...I like the fact it is available with
the phenolic center body(cooler fuel temps), and the bigger "goggle eyes" secondaries in the back. Any more info anyone can give me on the Street Demon?
