2004 Stratus SXT 2.4 L Engine Any Good?

Is this engine Mitsubishi? How about the trans? Anything to be concerned about? Thanks for any input.

My brother had two of them. He liked them a lot. I don't believe they are Mitsubishi. The 2.4 in the 4-door Stratus is a Chrysler and the 2.4 in the 2-door is a Mitsubishi. The 2-door is just a stretched Eclipse.

i have 2 of them. my 98 Stratus has 170k and still runs great. Timing belt and water pump at 100k plus normal maintenance is all I have done to it. My wife's 06 Sebring is at 46k now no problems.

We bought one new in '04. It runs quiet and has alot of pep for a 4-banger. Especially when toting around a 3800# car!

A 4-door Stratus with the 2.4 is a pretty good combo, decent power, and good mileage. I think the 2.4 has a little more engine noise than the 2.7 V6 my Stratus, but not annoying.
If you are 6' 7", there might not be a lot of leg room.

The 2.4 is a very good engine, made by Mopar. It's not Jap. A version of it gets a turbo in the SRT-4 and Turbo PT Cruiser.

We have a '99 with the 2.4 double overhead cam, it's a torquey little engine, this '04 I'm looking at is a 2 door Mitsubishi, and I'm still curious about the automatic transmission? Thanks for your replies.

The 2dr stratus is a reskinned mitsubishi eclipse. The 2.4 in the 2dr is a mitsu motor and has nothing in common with the chrysler 2.4. Same goes with the trans, mitsu not mopar.

For a stock fwd car, those 3L ecplise/stratus do pull pretty good with the 5 speed stick. But if you want to go all out, the mitsu 2.4/5sp combo has the most performance potential I think.
