T/A AAR 4 speed? - 11/11/13 11:47 PM

I know that they came with close ratio gears, but did they have the Interlock style side cover instead of the Ball & Detent style? Also, did they come with the bolt on style shifter handle instead of the bayonet style? Thanks.

1970 NP833 had ball and detent side covers, 1971 was the first year for the GM style side covers I believe. I had a J code 1970 Challenger T/A 4 speed CA car, I can't remember now if the shift handle bolted on or slid in I'm almost Positive that all the 1970 and 71 E body short pistol grip shifters I've seen had the bolt on handles, maybe not What say you Scott Smith Harms

I'm thinking TA/AAR cars were the first of the 1971 style covers, but we need a 4 speed expert!

My AAR had a slip in style handle. There was a article from road and track I think. About the road test and the handle coming out on the test drive. The side cover was a detent style from what I remember but could be wrong( memory not so good on that one)

Not sure here but I believe all 70 OEM shifters are slip in handle, not sure after that. Actually I was under the impression all OEM shifters were slip in and a bolt on was aftermarket...

The rest of the shifters that were slip in were used up in 1971 production then switched to bolt on during that model year, and the years after that remained bolt in. I had an original 71 RR with the slip type shifter.....
