87 oct straight gas vs 91 oct ethanol - 11/10/13 09:55 PM

Just curious on some opinions, recently discovered a gas station close to me that sells straight gas. Its only 87, however its the only place for a hours drive that sells non ethanol. Currently running 91 with ethanol in a 72 era 318, with only mods being a electronic diz, offenhauser intake and 4 barrel holley. With all the headaches associated with ethanol blends, whats some thoughts on switching to a lower grade oct to lose the ethanol?

your 318 doesn't need 91 octane. without or without ethanol.

Regular gas is fine, with or without ethanol.

yea that was kinda my thought being that the 318 is not exactly known for high compression. I was just shocked to see straight gas at the pump.....

If you have access to non ethanol then definitely take advantage of your good fortune

ANYTHING with ethanol is BAD! Seriously - I just added some ethanol-free gas, an ounce of Sta-Bil ethanol treatment, & a couple ounces of regular Sta-Bil to my Challenger for it's winter hibernation. Costs me over $4.00 a gallon for e-free gas - ONE station by me has it at a special pump.

after taking the following '2yr old' float from my wifes 67 gtx, I am keeping all the auto's filled to the brim with petro... unfort, all we can get is ethanol favored fuel, so I mixed 25% 110 leaded cam 2, along with stabil marine stabilizer, dry gas, and topped off with 93 ethanol... hoping for no repeat of this

Run the straight gas when you can. The 318 will run fine, I believe its either 8 or 8.2 to one comp. Plus you will probably get better mileage as straight gas has a higher BTU rating than the ethanol.
