Master Cylinder - 11/08/13 05:03 AM

I have a 70 plymouth duster and am trying to change the master cylinder. I have the brake lines off and the 4 bolts removed from on the firewall, but it won't come all the way off. Don't you just pull it off and the rod stays on the car? Well that is as far as I got with it. Maybe I'm not strong enough to get it separated. Thanks

unbolt the horizontle pushrod from the brake pedal & remove the M/C/rod assy together then seperate the rod from the M/C in your vice or if on your hyd floor jack you are able to stick the M/C & rod down vertical then a horizontle rod thru the pushrod eye under the jack then pump it up to pull em apart

Thanks Robert. I thought maybe that I would have to remove that rod. I was thinking that maybe I could use a crowbar to separate them and not have to take the rod off the brake pedal.

Yeah go ahead & get the whole shebang out of there then you can easily work with it out in the open away from the car with your vise or jack. That neoprene piece does lock it in there pretty good since as you know it's a safety issue & a liability issue for Ma if it was flimsy

Ok I will take the rod off the brake pedal. I didn't want to because I'm 67 and hate like heck trying to contort my old body in those positions. Thanks Robert

& that nut will be tight, Ma didn't ever want it to vibrate off of there so the class of thread fit is very tight meaning that the nut wont get much looser as you're unscrewing it till it falls into your hand
