Anyone got a suggestion?
The 65 Coronet 500 with SS Springs and Im using the top hole on the front mount. Still looks like it dragging a$$.

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/14/13 08:05 PM

wouldn't the top hole make it sit lower?
you are talking about the spring hangers on the front with 2 holes in it?

the top hole drops it about an inch.

Oh Crap! I think your right!
The problem is that an inch is still to low.
Im looking for at least 2".

Well, I went out and checked and I do have them in the lower holes!
Still have the issue.

Every early B that I put SS springs in sat way too high for my taste.

If it sits too low I'd say you have the wrong springs (can't handle the static weight). What are the spring numbers?

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/15/13 04:10 AM

I bought them from Mancini Racing they are 456 and 457 and the 079 front hanger brackets. I used the stock rear shackles.
I will post pics tomorrow.
They did lift the rear of the car a bit, to the top of the rim but I would like it a bit higher.
I know what you mean though, I had them on my 65 barracuda and the car had that stinkbug stance.
the A body sat too high, not the B body.

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/15/13 04:59 PM

The 456 and 457 should jack the ass end so high you need a ladder to get to the trunk. The 079 brackets are for '66 and later....might be the problem.

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/15/13 07:04 PM

I am not all that familiar with the mancini brackets, but could they be in upside down?

079 brackets are for 64/65 cars according to their web site.

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/15/13 07:47 PM

When I got them for my GTX it sat too low so I added a full length main leaf.

If the back stays jacked up most often the rear spring hanger is jammed forward binding p the spring.

Its raining here so no test drive today! Not because it to nice, just the fact that it wont hook at all when it's dry.

2 more

Shouldn't it sit higher?

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/15/13 10:07 PM

Whats your shakle angle?

Your car looks alot like my 65.....faded white, chips, a few dents, bits of rust....

Yours is a bit nicer though. Does it have two tone red guts?

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/15/13 11:10 PM

Shackle angle is fine, The interior is black.
Ive seen couple 65's that sat about 2" higher in the back and I really like the look.

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/15/13 11:15 PM

One possibility is that you have the front cranked up too high and it's sitting level?

Might want to double check your ride height, but looking at the pics it appears ok.

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/16/13 12:11 AM

Somebody check to see if Hell has frozen over!
That IS strange: I'd expect the rear to be 1.5" to 2" higher than that, and the R/R to sit higher than the L/R.
You double-checked that what you received is what you ordered, and that they are in fact SS springs? How are the leaves oriented? They should all be located forward of where the stock leaves sit, with the exception of the 2nd leaf.

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/16/13 01:42 AM

The front end is at 24 3/4" to the lip on the front fender. If you look at the picture of the front of the car it is pretty low. The tag with the part numbers are still on the springs.
The front segments are 20" all of the measurements are right.
Like I have said, it is sitting lower than I prefer. Ive seen these cars with a good half of the upper part of the tire exposed.

This is how my buddies 65 Coronet sits with SS springs on it. I can ask him tomorrow what the part #'s are and where he got them. Ron

I have the same springs and hangers in my 66, front spring mount is in the bottom hole. I wish it was a bit higher too.

What size tires are on the rear??

They look smallish/short. Something like a 275/60R-15 will give it some more height.

Ron, It looks like he's about where IM at now. The passenger side is a tad higher as your friends is in the pic.
The tiers I have on the car now are 295/50/15 but I was thinking about going to a 275/60/15.
IM not sure that is going to have the affect that Im looking for.
Taller tire wont change the look of the wheel in the opening.

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/16/13 03:52 PM

You know I forgot but I bought my 3400 lb SS springs from Mancini for my 63 and it sat a bit lower then I thought it would. Here is how it sits after I raised the back about 1" by using different rear shackles and my rear tires are Hoosier 30 x 9's. After I put the shackles on to the height I like I cut them off right at the bottom of the shackle as I hate to see 6 inches of shackle hanging down below the spring in the back of the car. Ron

Ron,

Who did you get the shackle kit from?

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/16/13 06:57 PM

Its a Mr Gasket kit. Very heavy duty. I will go out and try to get a pic of them. Ron

It looks as though their is 2 part numbers. one is for 1/2" holes in the shackles and the other is for 7/16" holes but they both come with 1/2" bolts per the manufacturer?

P255/70R15, too bad they are too close to the wheel lip. I'm going to try P235/70's. It sucks because I like the size of these. I might have to try Ron's trick and get a longer shackle. I would like an extra inch or so.

In the MP catalog 079 is for '66-'70, '64-'65 are 080.

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/16/13 11:09 PM

Mancini Racing 079 bracket is for '64-'65 Dodge cars so he has the correct brackets. And the brackets only fit on one way unless someone has hacked up the car. So they can't go on upside down.

If the spring is installed in the lower eye bolt hole then it should be stock ride height. Usually the SS springs jack the car up a bunch but there could be something going on that we can't see in the pictures.

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/17/13 05:58 AM

I've used those leaf springs a few times going back to 1973 and they always seem close to the stock ride height.
I've got a set on my '64 Savoy and it sits just like yours. If you want more rise, 3800lb springs are a good choice if you don't mind a little more fab work and... choppy ride

Gregsrt, What backspace do you have on your wheels?

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/19/13 06:30 AM

4.5", they would be better with 4.75 or 5" but it would be a custom order and I'm just a poor boy. Lol

15 x 8 wide with 4.5 back space, right?
How much room to your springs?

Re: SS Springs and correct hardware 65 B sits to Low! - 09/19/13 04:44 PM

2 inches or so

Any handling issues with your front end up like that?

before

Better?
I took it for a test run and it still handles fine.
I just don't care for the shackle showing out back.

It still hasn't seen the light of day in 4 years except for the recent move to SoCal from Indiana. It will be out by summer, that is a promise. The engine is in it, 440 with edddy heads and indy 2x4 intake so the weight is there. it did have a 4-speed but is going back to a 727 as recent surgery has done a number on my shoulder and left arm to where I can hardly move it. Anyone interested in some 4-speeed stuff, lol!
