OK,the 70 parts book shows 1 starter for all engines # 2875560 so why do I have 2 different starters. The housings and most parts are the same except for the Coil frame and armature(larger) and reduction gear smaller. What do you think
Thanks

Check on the 440 source website under starters. I think they talk about the various sizes there. If your looking for info on correct date coded things, you might want to post in the Restoration & A12 section. Those guys know their parts and numbers.

I just noticed you sig. Did you see my post about the 1970 RT Challenger survivor this guy at my work bought new in '70. I just learned about it last week, and am waiting to get over and take pictures of it. It's all original, never apart, and is a little rough according to him. You guys need to talk.

There were 2 different HP rated starters for the various models of engines. They interchangable and engine but the power ratings of the starter motors was different depending on what engine they were put on. The newer more powerful starter is rated at I believe 1.8 HP. There is also a differnce in the length involved with this and that is why some people say that they use the short starter with headers (not refering to the new style starter).
