42LE Question

42LE Question - 09/08/13 07:25 PM

Adding a drain plug the transmission pan on the car. Its the 42LE (LH car transmission). When we last had the pan off I forgot to take any pictures of the inside. I dont want to run into clearance issues with the nut/drain plug on the valve body. I understand this is a long shot at best asking but if anyone here has added a drain plug to the 42LE and has first hand knowledge of any clearance issues I would love to hear from you.

Thank you.

Why? If it is time to change the fluid, you need to change the filter as well.

It's far more convenient to have a drain plug to dump the fluid before you pull the pan.

The clearance is tight...They have a wide and deep plastic filter that takes up considerable room..You can put it in the corner, I suppose. ...Id have to see what type of plug you are using..BTW if you arent going to weld the plug bung in the pan, you can just about guarantee that its going to leak. Those types that use the plastic washer just never seal. You also have to consider that the pan has ribs, so that would preclude putting pne of those plugs there...

IMO, its a waste of time..Lock up transmissions rarely need fluid service and you cant get near 100 % of the fluid out of it just by dropping a pan, so what did you really accomplish?

Just my as a seasoned trans guy.
