engine won't fire

engine won't fire - 08/28/13 01:26 AM

Car is 67 Dart with 273. Engine was idling then quit. Found loose positive coil wire but overtightened nut and broke lug. Replaced with new coil. Wire from distributor to pos side of coil and wire from harness to neg side. No start. Engine turns over. Coil wire from dist. cap to coil seems tight. Battery is weak so I jumped it. Engine turned over as it should but no start. I have fuel-carb sqirters are working with new fuel pump that ran engine a few days ago. Can someone give me a step by step plan of action from here? I have a meter but really only know how to test continuity with it. I am dumb when it comes to elecrical and I am guessing it is some kind of electrical problem since it has fuel. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Pull the plugs and either dry them or best to replace them. I bet your flooded out, try holding the carb wide open while you crank the sh!t out it or replace the spark plugs.

Connect a timing light on any spark plug wire and crank it. Does the light flash? If so I bet the plugs are junk.'

Good luck.

I held the the carb wide open while attempting to crank it but no go. I have flooded it before and that always worked up until now. Found my timing light and it did flash as engine cranked so I guess that means I have spark from the dist. to the plugs. Will try the plugs next. Probably overthinking this because I panic at thought of electical problems. Thanks.

Wire from distributor goes to coil negative post and harness wire goes to coil positive post.

Is there power to the posi side of coil? Turn the key on and check with a test light. I bought a new coil once and it was hooped!
