74 duster no crank - 08/14/13 06:33 AM

ok so the owners manual says the seat belt has to be hooked in before she will crank.there is a relay on the apron that is for it.the om says to push the center of the tube in on it to crank without the seat belt being connected for service use. I tried it doesn't work.I used my remote start button and it fires right up.I also noticed it has no neutral safty switch on the trans.Where does it pick up the reverse lights.? Does any body have a wiring schematic for a 74 gold duster? I need to track this down.Seems like a funky setup.I have no signal at the starter relay.

www.mymopar.com would have the schematics for you. The backup light switch would have to be either on the side of the trans or on the shifter if it's a floor shifter. For the no crank the quickest would be to run a wire from the "start" terminal on the dangling connector under the steering column out to the "ign" terminal on the starter relay the one with the yellow wire on it. That'd bypass all of the nonsense then for the NSS either permanently ground the "grn" terminal on the starter relay if you're comfortable with that or make sure the wire downstream from there has continuity to ground in park/neutral thru the NSS wherever it is located (trans or clutch) or maybe shifter I would imagine

It sounds like the plug from the wiring harness to hook to the transmission (NSS) indicater is missing. There should be a 3 prong rubber plug connected to the trans in 1974.

that's what I thought but the trans doesn't have one and no broken or unplugged wires.and it cranked fine until now.

and the wiring schematic ive found doesn't show this system.yellow wire goes to the seatbelt relay then too a box on the pass side firewall.the reverse light wires run from the seat belt relay thing.from the box to the starter relay.

Do yourself a favor and bypass that PITA. All you need do is pull the two larger yellow/ yellow tracer wires out of the reset box and wire them permanently together.

I did make a jumper and bypassed the seat belt relay. The box I replaced was for neutral safety and reverse lights.
