Concerned over header clearance, burning paint

Concerned over header clearance, burning paint - 08/10/13 06:10 PM

I am getting ready to fire the Dart. It has 2" TTIs on it, and the clearance to the pass side fender well is really close. The headers are ceramic coated and the car is painted base/clear.

I know these headers are *really* overkill for what I have now. But the plan is to upgrade the engine, so I didn't want to have to buy a bunch of stuff twice. The only reason I am running them.

Anyone have any similar experience? Thanks.

That looks like plenty of distance. The paint is remarkably tough people have been known to paint engines with it and it works fine. Yes it'll get hot, but not enough to burn. Now if that cylinder goes way lean and turns that tube red hot all bets are off. Also make sure you timing is never retarded a bunch that'll make the tubes glow too.

I was thinking it would be okay, but wanted to ask. Even if it would discolor a little with the color it probably would not be noticeable. I ran the engine already, so I know where the timing is, etc. The carb has the stock jets DP 750 which I think are 80 in the front and 82 in the back? Been a while since I had it apart.

You should be fine. I know you cant see it to good but my pass header is about that close and it has not burnt the fenderwell paint at all. Ron
