68 Coronet RT driveshaft lenth - 08/09/13 08:47 PM
I'm working on a buddy's 68 coronet rt 440 4 speed dana. The driveshaft that's in it is so long that it is pushing in on the tailshaft seal dust boot a little.I didn't think the yoke should be pushing in on the boot at all. Also this driveshaft has a big round wieght on the front just behind the yoke.I'v had several 69 and 70 b body's and never seen a driveshaft like this.Any help would be appreciated.

With the driveshaft disconnected from the rearend push it as far as it will go into the trans. There should be between 1/2 and 1" space between the Ujoint caps and the the place they seat in the rearend yoke. That is measured with the weight of the car on the springs. Either on the ground or on jack stands. The round weight was to reduce vibration.

You could replace the seal with one that has no boot if it bugs you.

Maybe it came out of a car with 8 3/4?
