A better way to mount a Lokar throttle cable?

So I've got my Lokar cable hooked up to the Carter TQ carb...the bracket is attached to the rear drive side corner of the carb base plate. Because this is the 9800 series aftermarkmet carb and has the GM throttle linkage I did have room to mount a bolt in and thread it through the base plate.

Here is what this looks like:



Problem is, the bracket assembly keeps on shifting on me...it simply will not stay put. Hammer the throttle a couple of times and it will shift, basically the bolt that is holding the bracket onto the carb base lets the bracket slip, and the whole assembly shift towards the front of the carb but away from the carb body...sort of at an angle...result is slack in the cable. Now I have that darn thing tightened down as hard as I dare.

Has anyone done something different to mount the Lokar cable? Is there an aftermarket 'old style' manifold based bracket that will accept the cable?

I did see in the Summit catalogue the one piece aluminum carb brackets...they claim to work with Edelbrock carbs as well...seems like a heck of a lot more solid setup...expensive too, but at this point in time I am just looking for a SOLID mount that will not shift, here is an Allstart Performance piece I'm thinking of:

When I use to use the Lokar stuff I had the same problem I use to take a piece of stiff coat hanger & form it to a link that would either go to the coil mount or a intake bolt

You have to do this on that type on anything you put it on

I use the BPE stuff now with no problems

The cheap and easy fix is to take a washer that fits the stud snugly,grind the plating off the lokar bracket then install. Weld the washer to the bracket and your set. Yes there are a lot better setups but if you want a simple 5 minute fix that's the one I've used for many years on that garbage Lokar bracket.

I would have gone with the Bouchillon kit....it's quick and painless to install...and most importantly..it holds...since you already bought this....why don't you fab up some aluminum plate...attach it to the lower tension cable for the Lokar, open up a 7/16"...then re-attach the adjusting nut....put the other end of that fabbed piece of aluminum on the intake manifold bolt between the #5 & #7 cylinder.....when its all done and performing...paint the bracket or polish it up with 2000 grit paper

I have a 82 D150 that had a Lokar throttle cable on it when I bought it. I had bracket issues also but the biggest problem was the cable sawed thru the outer sleeve where it had a bend. I replaced it with an OEM throttle cable and aftermarket bracket like the Allstart you show but mine is a Jegs brand.

After I saw how flimsy the Lokar stuff was, when I needed a kickdown for my 68 V100, I bought the Bouchillin kit, not as cheap but much better quality.

The Bouchillion kit corrects the ratio on the kickdown.

Using the Lokar like a GM is like playing Russian Roulette with your trans if the lever on the trans isn't the right one.
There's no correct factory lever that I know of that works with the GM throttle style

This is a kit that is made for a Chrysler product using Chrysler parts

I have had no problems with mine. But the hole in my Lokar bracket is not oblonged as it is a nice round hole that fits nicely over the carb stud. Then I run the set screw in on the side until it cant move at all with it bolted down. It has stayed tight for over 6 years for me. I guess if your hole is oblonged which it looks to be you may not have enough set screw thread to turn it in far enough. I am talking about the little screw (bolt) on the bracket that screws up against the carb base plate. Ron

Why not try some serrated washers ?

where did that bracket come from on your thermo quad? I also have the lokar setup with a Demon carb. I wanted to try a thermoquad but I dont have a lever that will pull the shift cable.
