70 dash in 71 Cuda...is it possible from the factory? - 08/02/13 01:41 PM

I have a 71 Cuda project that is coming with a 70 style rallye dash. Car has 118.....vin, spd 904.
Could it be that some early cars were fitted with leftover parts from year before, or simply dash had been switched sometime in the past?
A friend of mine has a 71 Challenger conv 340 with the same thing, his car was also early producrion.
Thank you

I had a 71 barracuda with a 318 that was a early build with a 70 dash in it. The car was mostly original when I got it, so the dash was never out.

Antonello,
Are you asking about just the instrument cluster or the entire dash pad?

I have seen several early 1971 cars (up to mid September) that have 1970 interior parts. Specifically, Dash pads, center consoles, and Saddle Tan interior parts.
Many have been black dash pads and consoles. But some with colored interior (a blue one and a green one comes to mind).

If it is just the Rallye Instrument cluster, then yes. The factory would just use what ever they had in stock.
Are you wondering because of an assembly date of 1970 on the instrument cluster? or because it has a 8,000 RPM tachometer?

I have seen 1970 deck lids on first day production 1971 cars. Also, late 1971 cars, I have seen 1972 parts.

My early build 71 challenger has "70 only" center console and front buckets. It also had ember gold interior.

Hello Ola
car has black dashpad and black console from a 70. Other parts are missing. But if the SPD is early september, it could be correct. Gauges are from a 72 or later, with 7000 tach, but have some other guages from an earlier project. Don't know about trunk lid, car was in a dark garage and could't check out ....Seats are from a 70. Door panels and quarter panels are missing. have a 71 column on hand, not sure id there is a column right now.
