1975 Newport question - 07/06/13 09:05 PM

I just looked at a 75 Newport and to my surprise it had a 440 in it instead of the 400 I usually see in them.Anyone wager a guess how many had 440's in them?

Not too many were packing 440s, that's for sure. However, rare does not mean valuable. You're talking about a 4500 lb car packing a monster 215 hp and 330 ft/lbs.

That's 50 less horsepower than a Toyota Camry and carrying an extra 1500 lbs.

There's a word for that.

Pig.

As the owner/operator of a 225 hp Imperial I feel qualified to make that statement.
My Imperial barely edges out my smart in the run from 0-60.

Yeah that's a given.Kinda like my Polara when I bought it.I have more than enough left over bolt on's lying around to at least make it fun if nothing else.

Is it a sedan or a hardtop? If sedan it might have a history as a state agency vehicle. NC was still big into Mopars as fleet cars in 1975. C body Plymouth Furys were the choice of the Highway Patrol through 1976 and then B body Furys until the end of the line in 1978. If I remember correctly several of the state offices in the Raleigh area used Chryslers, SBI and Governors office?

It is bought and paid for now I just have to get it home.I will have to check and see on the hardtop vs sedan. It has no vinyl top I can remember that much.
