71 Duster headlight wiring schematic - 07/06/13 03:16 AM

Hi yall, my good friend bought a 71 Duster today and realized tonight that the headlights dont work properly. Only the low beams work. He ran to Napa and bought/installed a new dimmer switch and still no high beams. I told him I would come over one day this weekend and take a look but I thought I would ask if anyone had a schematic before I went. Also his car is a factory 318 4spd car that now has a 360 auto in it. He also said that the backup lights always stay on. I belive this is probably due to who ever did the tranny swap not redoing the reverse light switch wiring at the tranny. But I thought the reverse lights wouldnt work at all. I know on 70's trucks that I swapped a 4spd into I had to ground one wire and put the other two on the switch to get the lights to work. On his car what would cause the reverse lights to work all the time? Any help would be great, please note this is not my car and I havent seen it in person. Its not a bad looking car from the pics but I am not into later A-bodies, LOL.

Thank you for any help:)
If anyone has this cars headlight and reverse light schematic that can email it please email it to: moparman111(at)msn(dot)com

If you have low beams then there is power (for high and low) to the dimmer switch & the open (to the high beams) is either in the dimmer switch or downstream toward the bulbs themselves. www.mymopar.com has wiring diagrams that'll give you the colors. On the backup lights I would start at the connector on the trans. EDIT for the high beams seperate the firewall bulkhead connector & check for continuity there at the high beam wire on both sides & as needed either work back to the dimmer switch or downstream to the lights for the open
