Spare Tire Size Suggestions for 1973 Charger? - 07/04/13 02:35 AM

Guys,

Since I am driving my Charger further from home now, I am going to be a smart person and go ahead and get the spare tire for the trunk.

I have one of the OEM 14" steel rims sandblasted and powder coated. What is a good all around size for a SPARE tire to mount on this puppy? Would a normal tire store stock this size?

I am looking for cheap and functional as it will be used solely as a spare. My other wheels are 15" Magnum 500's so this will not ever be used long-term.

Also does anybody sell a nice "kit" which would include scissor jack, lug wrench, etc. in a case/pouch? I see you can buy these individually but I was wondering if I could get this all in one set so it's not all bouncing around the trunk.

Thanks guys!

If you have sure grip or other clutch type traction control in the diff the tire diameter on both sides needs to match or you'll risk burning up the clutches in the diff. You can move a front tire to the rear if they are the same size if the flat is on one of the rear tires.

Yeah I had thought of that and I am seeing it will be almost impossible to find a tire the same diameter as my rears (28" exactly) using the 14" rim.

Unless I can find this, I may have to get a cheapy 15" rim which would give me more options. I didn't want to spend a lot on a SPARE but it looks like everything else on this car...PITA.

thought the trick was to find one of the m-body spares. was a thinner tire, but 15 inch equivalent. probably cost you the same as finding a new tire on a 14 that worked.
