68 Charger grill spacer kit - what goes where? - 06/26/13 08:24 PM

Same 'ol story, must have taken about 100 pics of the grill when it was coming apart and as usual didn't take pics of the one thing I'm having trouble remembering. I've attached an Ebay pic of Firestone Collectable's 68 grill spacer kit with the thin washers, large diameter inner(?) spacer and the steel sleeve integrated spacer. I'm thinking the steel sleeved spacer (middle of the pic) goes in from the outside (or down from the top if you're working on the top of the grill frame) and then the thin washer (top of the pic) clicks onto the larger diameter spacer (bottom of the pic) which then clicks onto the steel sleeved spacer from the bottom or inside. Does that sound right? I called Jason at Gunslinger and he thought the washer went on the top but he wasn't sure, so then I called the Smith Bros. and their description kind of got lost in translation due to a lack of visual aides.

I'm hoping the pic will help here but trying to describe top and bottom and/or inside and outside gets confusing. Anyway, please give it a shot.

Section that has the metal sleeve is the only piece on the outside of the grille frame.

Basically it goes.
screw
spacer with sleeve
METAL GRILLE FRAME
thin washer
larger thin washer that snaps on the outer sleeve
Plastic grille that has the slide on clip nut

Hopefully this makes sense

I did 3 1968 Charger grilles last year and everyone where the same way
You might be able to zoom in on this picture

Excellent! Thank you, that's the way I thought it was supposed to be and was trying to explain it that way above. Not sure if I made any sense though.

One more thing (assuming you return) have you ever used some kind of washer or reinforcement plate on both sides of the plastic grill mounting pads? Since many of mine were broken across top, and some of the speed nuts were embedded into the plastic, I thought it would be a good idea to install some 1/16" stainless plates on both sides of the top mounting pads to try spreading the bulk of the weight out beyond just the spot where the speed nut sits.
