shifter cable - 06/25/13 06:45 AM

ok I asked this on the truck thread an thought maybe throwing it on here might get some hit's, ok I have a b&m quick silver shifter I will be installing in my d150, BUT I don't have the motor or tranny in yet ( still in the building stage )so I need to know what the length the cable need's to be if possible.. the rig is a 81 d150, 318/727 swap.. I bought a used shifter so it never came with the cable any info would be great

I would probally try to mock up where I would want the shifter and then use a measuring tape to find the length to a hole in the firewall to run the cable through and then measure to the trans. mounting points I would think a six foot long one may work well Make sure and keep the cable away from the headers or exhaust pipes

....also be sure to GROUND the engine properly through the chassis or it could find-that-ground through the cable and damage said-cable ...

Fixed it.

Those cables will melt if you glare at them.

The cable that comes with the Quicksilver is really long. I now use black Insultherm on the B&M cables but the old cheaper stuff works as well. Just make sure you use something or it will melt.

hey Lefty do ya know about how long the cable was with the quick silver?? I was told 5ft should be good? but don't want to come up short but don't want to come up long.. I will be running long tube header's, dumper's probably before the box if that make's a difference, would I be better off with the 6ft?? like I have said before I KNOW NOTHING about them there auto O matic's lol..

I suspect it will be perfect.
