2003 300m canister purge solenoid - 06/25/13 02:16 AM

Wife's 300 check engine light came on today. Had her stop at advance auto before she drove the 20 miles home to see what it was. Guy read it and it says canister purge selinoid. So where is that and what does it actually do?

Thanks
Corey

On that car it should be under the hood. It is a solenoid hooked to the canister line to purge the vapors out of the charcoal canister after the eng is running. It is also used to pull a vacum on some models in the evap system to test it for leaks. Just because its throws that code does not mean it is the solenoid bad as other things in the circuit can set the code also. It should be checked out and diagnosed. But if you want to take a gamble and replace the solenoid you might get lucky and fix it. Ron

Go to 'Complete Manual (56MB)'

If it was the "purge performance" code (p0441), It most likely needs the NVLD switch replaced.
