Need thread sealant on intake manifold vacuum port? - 12/06/08 08:18 PM
Hi all,
My slant6 intake manifold has a vacuum port fitting that screws into it. Do I need to use any type of thread sealant on it? If so, what do you recommend? I have regular plumbing pipe dope, but I don't think it's high-temp resistant. Thanks for any advice.

Plumbers paste will work fine. Teflon tape does the same job and is less messy, but make sure you wrap it in the right direction so it doesn't bunch up when you thread it in.

It would probably be just fine without, but better practice would be use sealant.
Teflon Tape, or Thread sealant(liquid) or RTV or Permatex....almost anything would work.

Teflon thread sealant would be best,
usually in a tube, cheap and will never leak.
I like it much beter than the tape!
Good luck!

I use anti-sieze compound and it works well.
