Hemi with crossram intake, will it fit? - 06/10/13 06:00 PM

The crate Hemi I just traded for came with a crossram,If I bolt it on will it fit under the stock hood?
How about under Six pack hood? If so think that hood would look good on a vert?

Probably will not fit under the stock hood especially if you run air cleaners which you should. A six pack hood is probably good for height but you may have to clearance the hood for the rear carb, like I had to do on my 68 HEMI Barracuda.
If you are looking for more h.p. I would use a single high rise and a 850. My engine made 75 more h.p. with the single intake but I was using the Indy Legend One alum. Heads which have larger intake ports than the runners on the cross ram. The cross ram choked the flow. Cross rams look cool but can hamper the h.p. potential.
Now, is a six pack hood cool on a vert.??????? Everyone will have their own opinion, but your opinion is the only one that really counts. Maybe someone has tried it and can post a few pics.
I will post a picture of my Barracuda and although you have a B body you will get an idea how high the carbs with air cleaners sit above the fender lines.

It will also depend on which cross ram you got, a vintage one piece cross ram has smaller overall dimensions than the modern replacement bolt on lid design.

This is the vintage reproduction I purchased from A & A. One piece unit.

This is a better picture that shows the heigth of the carbs in relation to the top of the valley. I don't know the exact dimension but you should be able to eye ball it to some degree.

Hopefully you can see the top of the air cleaners in relation to the underside of the scoop. Hope this info has helped.

The motor in the crate has a single 4 on it but I am getting a new MP crossram with it and really I am talking about it because of the cool factor when the hood is popped.

They are cool, that's for sure. Keep us posted on your progress and some pictures would be good too.

Sorry to hijack but what is that between the block and the intake in that rear view? Looks like a piece of aluminum or something.

That is an aluminum valley cover. It has a removable plate that let's you access the lifters without having to remove the plate, which would require removing at least one of the heads. ICH did a good job with that design.

I think it will fit terrible in your Runner.
You should send that troublesome piece to me so you don't have to be bothered with that unsightly 426.

I just recently put a 66 hemi in the coronet, you will not regret it.
Even if you have to leave the hood off the car.

My ADD is kicking in,we just made a deal on a 67 Belevedere II and the body is better than my RR,considering painting the 67 first since it would cost less and then I find my mind wandering thinking how I could run the 426 in the 67 untill I painted the RR(could be a few years).
That way we would have one car done quicker and cheaper.

I don't have the Cross Ram on mine, in line AFB's.
I had to install the correct low style Hemi scoop for clearance but that was mostly because of my choice in Air Cleaners.
Id run the 67 while you worked on the Roady! Who needs paint anyways.
At least you'll be mobile and in a Hemi car no less.
