65 A100 door hinge bushing kit - 06/10/13 01:33 AM

I am looking at this rock auto piece for new bushing and door pins for the a100.

Do you think this is a good alternative to rebuild the hinges?

Anyone use these on there van?

Or what part did you use that worked?

Nothing wrong with the dorman stuff. I think they are one of the only companies who makes the replacement parts everyone else sells.

Some ignorant minded people think putting a sacrificial wear surface (aka a bushing) is a bandaid fix and that your supposed to reweld and resize the holes everytime they get worn out and start sagging. I suppose if your the one getting paid by the hour then its the best approach.

You may find if the existing pivot holes are very worn and loose the replacement bushings wont be a snug fit. If that is the case then have the holes welded up and resized for the bushings and they should be good to go for a very long time.

Go to your local parts store in Help section and get a GM door pin bushing kit 38400 and drill out the holes tight to accept the bushing, cut the pin down to length. I always do mine like this without any failures yet. Drill thru both holes at the same time and the holes are aligned. Every does make a big deal out of nothing. Cost about 5 bucks per hinge and spares readily available. Mine were 71 and 72 Road Runners (heavy long doors). Rebuild was better than factory equipped. Now if you think it's not as delivered from factory, it's probably not for you.
