Sm Block Oil Filter Leak

Sm Block Oil Filter Leak - 12/05/08 03:44 AM

My 71 340 started leaking oil at the 90* adapter where it mates to the block. It's a pretty good leak. I used a gasket from my stash but not sure if it was the right type, the diam. was correct. Last guy just used silicone. Any insight to how these mount and what gaskets go where? A good pic would be great. I would do away with it but the car has headers and I think the filter will hit them sticking straight out. Thanks! Tim

felpro makes a thicker large gasket that goes into the block that works better than the Mopar one. Clean the recess in the block well & use some sealer on it. The other 2 gaskets, the thin one goes under the bolt head & the thick cork one goes inside on the bolt shank.

I have had two different types of gaskts ones for the metal plate and one for the adapter. I put headerson a 70 charger and no oil filter adapter jut useda fram PH43 or 16. header where flowtech.
