'67 Fury question - 06/02/13 12:09 AM

Sometimes when I am driving my '67 Fury convertible I can smell gasoline. I doesn't happen all the time but comes and goes. I have checked the fuel system and everything is dry, the carb too. I am wondering if it could have something to do with the vents for the tank (2). Sometimes when I remove the tank cap (non-vented), I hear a whoooosh sound. The car also bogs down on hills if I push the gas pedal way down but it may be retarded a bit too much but it may have something to do with this business too. My other '67 Fury hardtop does not have this problem. Any advise here will be as always, greatly appreciated.

If the vent tubes were plugged with a non vented cap that could cause fuel starvation but not a gas smell. If you're SURE everything is tight in the fuel system I'd just chalk it up to trasitory vapors from the carb maybe on a hott(er) day. More info: what eng/carb/pump/lines/pickup. always done it. WOT or part throttle. first thing comes to mind is AP issues & fuel psi at the carb inlet at that point. Are both cars identical for eng/carb etc

Thanks for your response. Both cars are 318 powered. the hardtop has the original engine but the convertible with the problem has a 1976 318.
I know that in '76, there was a vapor recovery system but that was not added when I switched to this engine. The inlet on the carb is plugged.I am not sure how long this has been going on for sure. Thanks again.
